Los Angeles - EF Language School 2012-2013

Wednesday the 9th January

Now I've reached Los Angeles, and today is my 4th day here. 😀I arrived Sunday the 6th at the evening. My first impression wasn't really good, I was supposed to get picked up by one from the school, but no one was there. I waited for 1 hour and there was still no one there with an EF sign! Finally I took a cap to the school. The only problem with that was, that the residence is not on the same location as the school - and of course there was no adress in my papers of the residence, only the street name. Just to information - Avenue G is pretty long! Well, there were nobody at the school, so I had to start walking. I think the school should be very happy, that I had two enormours suitcases and a heavy handbag, because I needed to burn some anger! I was P....! I was sweating and it felt like fire of anger was bursting out of my head! 😠 At last I found it with some help some a very nice woman, whom I met on the street. I felt a sleep pretty fast that night! 🙂

Monday the 7th January. This was my first day at EF Los Angeles. All New students had an introduction meeting and later we went on a welcome tour. We were driven in this really great bus - it was almost like a movie! It was a "Limo"-bus, with leather seats, loud music, disko lights, tinted windows and of course a pole for pole-dancing! 🤪 We had a really good day! We went to the three closest beaches and their Piers (Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach) and walked around just to get to know the places a bit. It was three very beautiful places - Los Angeles is a very big city, that has a lot of small communities. It's small cities inside the big city. Hermosa is mostly used for Vollyball and Sufers, Manhattan Beach is mostly a shopping area and Redondo Beach has a lot of restaurants. 🤩

Tuesday the 8th January was my first day at school. I had two SPIN (special interest) classes - "Yoga and Nutrition" where we learned about fruits and vegetables, and "Hollywood" where we learned about how light and shadows were used in movies and pictures. It was two different and interesting classes. Afterwards I had two classes with general english. The teacher here is better than the one I had for general english in New York 🙂. Today after school I went to a coffee shop with a german girl named Lisa and a danish guy named Jacob. It's really cool to meet someone from Denmark, but the coolest thing about Jacob is, that we talk english together! It's really weird to talk danish, because both of us know is used to speak english when we talk to people, so it's much easier just to keep speaking english! 😋 After our coffee, Lisa and I went for a walk along the Pier at Redondo Beach. The weather was a bit cloudy, but the temperature was nice. On our way home we saw a dead dolphin in the water's edge. It looked like it had been dead for some time and just had washed up to the beach. It was actually a bit exiting to see a dolphin that close, but at the same time a bit scary because of the decomposing. A really nice day today in total🤩.

Tuesday the 15th January

Now I only have two weeks left, before I'm going home! I can't believe that I've already been in the US for about three month! 😀

Last Saturday the 12th, I went with one of my roommates and some of her friends to Hollywood Blvd. They had rented a car, so we could get there pretty cheap - if we got to Hillywood a live!! I know that I'm good at driving too fast, but the girl to drove this car, was a bit crazy! I don't like the way American sometimes drive, it's a bit too confusing to me - but this girl who was from Brasil, she beat them all! Oh God! I thought we would hit somebody! She speeded up intensely and then brakes sharply, she drove in and out the queue of cars and really fast! I didn't dare to keep my eyes open most of the time! 😲😋Well, fortunately we came to Hollewood in one piece! And Hollywood was a great experiance! I saw "The Walk of Fame" (and took a bunch of pictures of course), I saw the different theatres, the big mall, all the souvenir shops etc. It was really fun to see it all!

Sunday the 13th I went to Beverly Hills with two asian girls. We had hired a driver to drive us. If you have a privat driver in Denmark, you are a pretty awsome person with a great deal of money - so when the black Lincoln car with it's tinted windows pulled up beside us, I felt quite special! But nooo - LA is not Denmark. You're not special - it's more like; " the bus system sucks, and I can't afford a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, so I have to drive around in this shappy Lincoln with a driver who has a very bad breath" - but I'm Danish so I still felt very special no matter what! A bit like a star 😎

We drove around in Beverly Hills; we saw the Beverly Hills sign, walked up Rodeo Drive, went for lunch, went at a Farmer's Market and I visited Ole Henriksen's Face and Body Spa. It was a great day! I  L O V E  LOS ANGELES!! ❤❤

Wedensday the 16th January

Today is Lisa's (my friend from Germany) birthday. She's turning 21, which is the legal drinking age in the US. We only had to lessons at school this morning, so we went to the beach afterwards. The weather was really good today. We brought our cameras and relaxed in the sand. The beach is so good here, there's no stones and the water is very clear 🤩

Suddenly we saw a Dolphin! And then one more, and one more, and one more! We saw a hole school of them! It was so beautiful. They were swimming up and down the shore, playing and hunting! My snap-finger was constantly active! I have never seen so many before, and as if this wasn't good enough, a whale came close to the shore as well, sparying water in the air! My snap-finger was on overtime! I felt like I was flying, I almost jumped into the water to try swimming with these magnificant creatures!! 🤪As said before; I LOVE LA! ❤ I want to live here! Actually I've already looked at ranches for sale close to here - the best one was only about 10 million $.....! Well, if I start saving now, I might afford it in a couple of 100 years. 🤭

Friday the 18th January

I'd signed up for the Hollywood Nightclub Tour with the school. The school hires a company called Expidition America, who makes different kind of tours. My plan was not to drink much, because I was going on a Las Vegas Tour with the same company the day after. We got picked up at the school by the Party-bus (the Limo-bus we drove on our first day here), and went to the nightclub called "Drai's". In the bus everybody was allowed to bring some drinks, so eventhough the drive only took about 40 minutes, everyone got a bit wasted! We were dancing, singing and drinking on the bus - a rolling disco!

The nightclub was amazing! We were, of course, VIP's, so we didn't have to wait in line as everyone else and we had our own table. It was one of the best club's I've been to. Eventhough the disco closed at 2am, I didn't get much sleep - it was really hard to get up the next morning and to get ready for our Vegas tour at 10am.

Saturday the 19th

Getting to the bus at 10am, was really really hard! I had a bit of a hangover - and I looked like something the cat had dragged in! I tried to sleep in the bus, but that wasn't easy at all. We were driven in The Party-Bus, just like the night before, and me and a girl named Paula was the only one who'd been to the Hollywood Nightclub - and the only ones with hangovers. I couldn't sleep and I couldn't eat, I felt so sorry for myself. The music was so loud, people was singing and dancing - eventually Paula went to the bathroom in the back of the bus and puked - luckily I wasn't that sick!

Finally, after 5 hours drive, we arrived at Las Vegas. It's an amazing city - right in the middel of the desert! I had paid 200$ for this trip, which I think was an OK price for the hole weekend, so I'd imagined us to stay at a normal, maybe a bit cheap hotel - but no! We arrived at the big pyramid - Luxor Hotel! How cool was that!? With this type of hotel - this weekend couldn't be nothing but perfect!
